VESPER (POSSIBLY) - Northumberland & Northeast

The Vesper, an old steamer that ran aground way back in 1876, is one of our favourites for a relaxed poke around. It sits shallow, just 8m deep, making it perfect for longer bottom times and a good option when the weather's a bit frisky elsewhere. You’re not getting the full ship shape here, it’s quite broken up, but that’s part of its charm. Think scattered plates of metal, ribs poking out, and the big, recognisable boiler standing proud. We love how the kelp drapes over the wreckage, swaying with the surge, creating these shadowy corridors. Spend some time really looking into the nooks and crannies. We’ve had some cracking encounters with lobsters and crabs tucked into the framework, and the wrasse here are bold, often coming right up to your mask. It's a proper hunt-and-find dive, not a grand swim-through, but the history seeps from every rivet. Ideal for newer drysuit divers or photographers wanting to practise in calmer, shallower conditions.
