VICTORIA - Northumberland & Northeast

The *Victoria*, a small fishing vessel that went down in 1981, is one of those wrecks we keep coming back to in the Northeast. At 22 metres, it’s a comfortable depth for most divers, and while it’s not enormous, there’s plenty to engage with. We love the way she sits upright on the seabed, her small wheelhouse still mostly intact, offering a glimpse into her working life. You’ll often find large schools of pollack circling the mast, and the nooks and crannies of the deck are absolutely packed with edible crabs and velvet swimming crabs. We’ve seen quite a few lobsters tucked away under sections of plating too, especially on a calm day when the light penetrates just right. Because she’s a smaller wreck, the *Victoria* suits divers who enjoy a more intimate exploration rather than just swimming over a huge structure. It’s a great site for honing your buoyancy as you duck in and out of the small holds, feeling the cool water shift around you. Our favourite time to dive her is on a slack tide, just after high water, when the current drops right off and you can take your time poking around every corner. It’s a proper little time capsule, and always a rewarding dive.
