WILD WAVE - Northumberland & Northeast

WILD WAVE is a perfect little wreck for a relaxed dive in the North Sea. We've always found it a gentle introduction to wreck diving, sitting in just 12 metres of water. The fishing vessel, a mere 4.9 metres long, went down in 2002 after catching a rope around its prop. You can still see the damage to the hull where she took on water and sank. Exploring WILD WAVE feels like poking around a toy boat at the bottom of a murky pond, but in the best possible way. The wheelhouse is gone, but the hull is largely intact, a dark shape against the silty bottom. We love how quickly the local critters colonised it. You'll often find a decent-sized cod lurking in the shadows and plenty of crabs scuttling over the plates. Look closely and you might spot a few nudibranchs munching on the algae. Visibility here can be hit-or-miss, typical for the region, but on a good day, with a bit of sunlight filtering down, the wreck takes on a ghostly glow. It’s a great spot for newer wreck divers or anyone looking for a chill dive without strong currents. We suggest going on a slack tide for the easiest rummage around.
