WOODS - Northumberland & Northeast

The Woods, a brigantine that sank way back in 1827, offers a proper glimpse into nautical history off the Northumberland coast. Lying in about 20 metres, the wreck itself is quite broken up now, but you can still pick out timbers and the general outline of the hull. It’s mostly wood, unsurprisingly, so don't expect big metal structures. What makes it interesting, though, is how much life has colonised the old timbers – you'll find plenty of wrasse darting between the planks and the occasional conger eel tucked away. It’s a good easy dive for anyone who enjoys pottering around older wrecks and seeing how nature reclaims them.
