Wreck of Aramenta - Northumberland & Northeast

Forget your tropical daydreams for a moment. Up here in the brisk North Sea, the Aramenta offers a different kind of beauty, a rugged, historical dive that always leaves us feeling a bit reflective. This isn't a wreck you just cruise over; it’s one you explore, poking into the holds, tracing the lines of the collapsed superstructure. We love how the metal has softened over time, draped in dead man's fingers and anemones, providing perfect hiding spots for velvet swimming crabs and cheeky squat lobsters. It’s a proper expedition, often with a bit of a swell on the surface, but the reward below is a genuinely atmospheric dive. Visibility can be a bit of a lottery, as is often the case in the UK, but on a good day, when the light penetrates just right, you get a real sense of the ship’s scale. Look for the resident conger eels, they’re usually tucked away deep within the wreck, and keep an eye out for curious seals if you're lucky. This site suits divers who appreciate history and don't mind a bit of a challenge, those who enjoy picking apart a wreck rather than just observing it from a distance. Our favourite way to dive it is on a slack tide, giving you maximum bottom time to really soak it all in.
