Wreck of Arethusa - Northumberland & Northeast

We love a proper wreck dive, and the *Arethusa* delivers that raw, northern UK character in spades. Dropping onto her takes you straight back to a different time, a feeling we always chase when exploring history underwater. The visibility here can be tricky, often a proper pea-souper, but when it clears, even just a little, the sheer scale of the wreck emerges from the gloom. She’s broken, spread across the seabed, but that just means more nooks and crannies to poke into. We’ve spent hours just finning along her hull plates, watching the light change, picking out details. Look for the massive propeller shaft, it’s a real feature. What makes her special for us is the life that’s colonised the wreckage – big lobsters tucked into every crevice, fat wrasse weaving through the twisted metal, and the occasional ling lurking in a dark corner. It’s a dive that rewards patience and a good torch, perfect for those who appreciate the quiet mystery of a forgotten vessel.
