Wreck of Bell - Northumberland & Northeast

The Wreck of Bell, sitting off the Northumberland coast, is one of those dives we just keep coming back to. It’s not a super deep dive, which makes it accessible, but don't mistake that for easy. Currents can be a real thing here, especially on a spring tide, so picking your day is crucial. We always aim for slack water. Dropping onto the Bell, you’re met with a surprisingly intact hull section, barnacle-encrusted and draped in kelp. It’s got a real ghost ship feel. We love the way the light filters through the green water on a sunny day, illuminating the structural elements. You can swim through a few open sections, peeking into what would have been cargo holds, now home to a resident population of wrasse and blennies. Look for the massive conger eels we sometimes spot tucked away in the darker recesses. It’s an atmospheric dive, best for divers comfortable with colder water and a bit of current, who appreciate history over coral.
