Wreck of Breakwater - Northumberland & Northeast

Diving the *Breakwater* wreck in Northumberland is a proper North Sea adventure, and one we genuinely love for its moody atmosphere. It’s not about tropical colours here, but the stark beauty of steel colonised by cold water life. This trawler lies broken but still recognisable, especially the stern section where the prop shaft and rudder often draw curious divers. We’ve had some cracking dives here, navigating through the holds which are now home to inquisitive juvenile coalfish and the occasional ling peeking out from the darker corners. You’ll want good buoyancy control to really appreciate the details, like the encrusting sponges and anemones that give the metal a surprisingly soft texture. Visibility can be hit or miss, typical of the region, but even on a greener day, the wreck’s shape emerges from the gloom with real presence. It’s a site that suits those who appreciate history and the rugged beauty of UK diving, offering a rewarding experience for divers comfortable with colder water and perhaps a touch of current. Our favourite time to dive it? Definitely on a slack tide, when you can really take your time exploring the nooks and crannies.
