Wreck of Carlisle - Northumberland & Northeast

The Carlisle wreck off the Northumberland coast is one of those sites we always come back to, especially when the conditions line up. Dropping down onto her, you immediately feel the history; it’s not just a pile of metal, but a true character. We love poking around the intact sections, the bow often feels the most dramatic, looming out of the gloom. You’ll find cod sheltering in the deeper holds, often surprisingly large ones, and the superstructure is just thick with dead man's fingers and anemones. This isn’t a gentle reef dive; there’s usually a bit of current to contend with, and visibility can be a lottery, but when it's good, it’s spectacular. We’d suggest a slack water dive to really appreciate the scale and explore the debris field without fighting a sweep. It’s perfect for experienced wreck divers who appreciate a bit of a challenge and the thrill of discovery. Keep an eye out for wolf fish lurking in crevices – they’re a common sight and always a treat.
