Wreck of Day Star - Northumberland & Northeast

The Day Star wreck is a proper North Sea adventure, a trawler that went down in 1957. You’ll find her sitting upright, largely intact, which always makes for a more interesting dive than a pile of rubble. We love that you can still make out the wheelhouse, the winches, and even the stern gunwale. It feels like stepping back in time, even with all the life that’s colonised it since. The visibility here is classic North Sea: you get what you’re given. On a good day, it’s a brilliant rummage, poking around the holds where crabs and lobsters scuttle. We’ve seen some huge anglerfish here, tucked into crevices, their lure twitching. It’s a dive for those who appreciate the history and the grit of UK wreck diving, not for sun-drenched reef explorers. The Day Star holds a certain charm, a hardy wreck that’s now a thriving artificial reef.
