Wreck of Enigma - Northumberland & Northeast

The Wreck of Enigma is one of those dives that sticks with you, even if you’re shivering a bit when you surface. We love the sheer atmosphere here. Dropping down onto the bow, you’re often met with a ghostly green light filtering through, especially on a sunny day. The wreck itself has really settled into the seabed, but the main structure is still very much intact, giving you plenty to explore. Our favourite part is swimming through the superstructure. It’s tight in places, requiring good buoyancy control, but the reward is seeing pollack darting through the beams and nudibranchs clinging to the rust-coloured plates. Look closely and you’ll find squat lobsters tucked into every crevice. We’d suggest diving this one on a slack tide for the best visibility; a falling tide can kick up a lot of particulate matter from the seabed, making it a darker, more silty experience. It's a fantastic dive for experienced wreck enthusiasts who appreciate history and the way nature reclaims these sunken giants, not just a bustling coral reef.
