Wreck of Estrella De Chile - Northumberland & Northeast
Now, if you’re diving the UK’s northeast coast, you absolutely have to drop on the *Estrella De Chile*. Forget what you’ve heard about cold water and poor vis, this wreck often delivers. We love it because it’s not just a pile of metal; it’s a proper ship with character. You can still make out the bow, the stern, and even some of the cargo holds, which is a real treat when you’re used to more broken-up wrecks. The *Estrella* is a cracking dive for experienced cold-water wreckies. It’s deep enough to feel like a proper adventure, but typically calm enough on slack water to allow for some decent exploration. We’ve had dives there where the visibility opens up to 10 metres, and you can see the entire outline of the ship, which is a rare thrill up here. Our favourite part has to be finning through the superstructure, watching the light filter down and catch the clouds of tiny pollack that now call it home. Keep an eye out for the resident conger eels, too; they’re often tucked into the darker recesses. It’s a proper historical dive, a real testament to the power of the sea, and a top-tier wreck for this part of the world.
