Wreck of Fame - Northumberland & Northeast

When we think of UK wreck diving, the English Channel often springs to mind, but the Northumberland coast has some real treasures, and the Wreck of Fame is a perfect example. It's not a site you'll find plastered all over brochures, which is precisely why we love it. What we get here is a proper shipwreck, not just scattered debris. You can still make out the ship’s structure, with ribs reaching up from the seabed and plates draped like ancient curtains. Our favourite thing about the Wreck of Fame is the sense of discovery. As you descend, the visibility might be a bit green, but then the shape of the wreck slowly materialises from the gloom, often cloaked in plumose anemones swaying gently with the current. Keep an eye out for curious wrasse darting between the metalwork and those surprisingly large edible crabs tucked into crevices. It’s a dive for those who appreciate the history beneath the waves and enjoy the challenge of exploring a genuine maritime relic. We’d suggest timing your dive for slack water to really soak it all in.
