Wreck of Havelock - Northumberland & Northeast

The Havelock wreck is a properly British dive, and we mean that in the best possible way. Tucked away off the Northumberland coast, this isn't some tropical resort wreck. It’s dark, it’s often chilly, but it absolutely delivers on atmosphere and marine life. We’ve always found it best to hit the Havelock on a slack tide, otherwise, you'll be fighting a decent push, especially around the exposed stern. What we love most about the Havelock is how completely it has become part of the seabed. It’s a ghost ship, really, silhouetted against the gloom, completely encrusted with dead man's fingers and anemones. Look for the massive cod that patrol the deeper sections of the holds; they’re enormous, the size of small torpedoes sometimes. We always take a good torch to really pick out the details in the gloom – the way the light plays off the rust, the curious wolfish eels peering from behind collapsed bulkheads. This dive is perfect for experienced cold-water wreck enthusiasts who appreciate history and the sheer resilience of marine life.
