Wreck of Heir Of Madryn - Northumberland & Northeast

The Heir of Madryn isn't your average lump of metal. This isn't just a dive, it's a history lesson sunk deep, one we come back to whenever we're in the North East. We love the way she sits, broken but still proud, a real testament to the power of the North Sea. The wreck itself is quite broken up in places, but you can still pick out sections of her hull and machinery. Look for the boilers, they’re usually a magnet for the local critters. You’ll want to time this dive for slack water, that current can be a real express train otherwise. We’ve had dives here where the visibility drops to a few metres, making the whole experience feel incredibly atmospheric. Then there are days where it opens right up and you can see the whole shape of her. Ling cod often hide in the darker recesses, and we’ve spotted various crabs scuttling over the plates. For those of us who appreciate a proper historical wreck, with a bit of a challenge and character, the Heir of Madryn delivers every time.
