Wreck of Importer - Northumberland & Northeast

The Importer wreck is a proper North Sea challenge, and that’s why we love it. Forget your warm water wrecks, this beast demands respect. She’s a trawler, sitting upright on a sandy seabed, and despite the years underwater, you can still feel the ghost of her working life. We often find the bridge area still somewhat intact, offering a great swim-through if conditions are calm, and the stern section holds some nice surprises. Look for the prop, it’s usually clear of sand. The real joy here is the residents. Ling often lurk in the deeper nooks, their mottled skin blending perfectly with the encrusted metal. Conger eels are always a possibility, their thick bodies weaving through the machinery, and the sheer number of small crabs and lobsters clinging to every surface is just brilliant. Visibility can be a lottery, typical of the North Sea, but when it's good, say 10-15 meters, the atmosphere is incredible. We'd suggest aiming for slack water, it makes exploring the interior much more enjoyable. This site suits experienced cold-water divers who appreciate a bit of history and don't mind a proper dive.
