Wreck of Jehu - Northumberland & Northeast

We’re always drawn to a good wreck, and Jehu, off St Mary’s Island, is a proper North Sea classic. It’s not just a pile of metal; this is a seriously atmospheric dive, especially when the visibility kicks in. You drop onto the stern, usually, and the first thing you notice is how much of the original structure remains – the prop shaft is still there, stretching towards the bow, and we love navigating the swim-throughs in the engine room. It’s tight in places, a bit silty, so good buoyancy is key, but the rewards are worth it. For us, the real magic of Jehu is the way the wreck has become a home. Ling, those enormous, eel-like cod, peer out from every dark corner, and the sheer number of edible crabs scuttling across the deck is incredible. We’ve had encounters with massive conger eels here too, tucked away in the deepest recesses. This isn't a dive for the absolute beginner; the currents can be tricky, and it’s a proper wreck dive, but if you appreciate history, decent exploration, and marine life that thrives in shadow, Jehu absolutely delivers. Aim for a slack tide and bring a good torch – you’ll want to explore every nook.
