Wreck of Laburnam - Northumberland & Northeast

The wreck of the Laburnam, off the Northumberland coast, is one of our favourites for a proper UK wreck dive. Dropping down, you hit the bow first, often into surprisingly good visibility, especially on a neap tide. We usually feel that slight current pulling us along the deck, past the collapsed mast and twisted metal. It’s a proper industrial wreck, not pretty in the coral sense, but full of character, and we love poking around the engine room, which is still quite intact. Look for the resident conger eels tucked into the dark recesses – they’re huge here, and a little shy. Schools of cod and pollock often drift lazily over the main sections. It's a dive that rewards a slow pace and a good torch, perfect for experienced wreck enthusiasts who appreciate history wrapped in rust.
