Wreck of Lancaster Rose - Northumberland & Northeast

The Lancaster Rose wreck always feels like a proper adventure. Dropping down, the visibility can be a bit hit or miss, but on a good day, the outline of that old trawler starts to emerge from the green, silty gloom, and it’s genuinely thrilling. We love how much of the vessel is still recognisable – the stern section with its propeller, the main deck plates, and a scattered debris field that tells a story of its final moments. It’s not just a collection of twisted metal; you can really picture it working the North Sea. This site is fantastic for divers who appreciate a wreck with character, and it’s particularly good for those looking to hone their navigation skills in slightly murkier conditions. Keep an eye out for the resident wolf fish tucked into crevices, their grumpy faces peering out, and the huge crabs scuttling across the deck. Our favourite moments here are when a ray glides silently over the sand next to the hull. We’d suggest timing your dive for slack water to get the most out of the site, as the currents here can be robust. It’s a proper taste of UK wreck diving, honest and rewarding.
