Wreck of Lizzie - Northumberland & Northeast

The Lizzie wreck is one of those sites that just gets under your skin, a proper slice of North Sea history that feels more like a time capsule than a dive site. We love the way she sits, often shrouded in that classic emerald green visibility, making the mast and bow loom out of the gloom with a real sense of drama. You’ll spend your dive exploring her scattered remains, picking out the boiler and engine, which are still remarkably intact, and imagining the gale that drove her onto the rocks back in 1899. This isn’t a colourful coral reef, of course. Instead, the Lizzie is home to a robust population of local characters – plump lobsters tucked into every crevice, inquisitive wrasse nosing around the plates, and the occasional ling slinking past. We've even spotted a few conger eels peering out from deeper sections. The current can be frisky here, so pick your slack water window carefully, usually an hour either side of low tide. It’s a great dive for anyone with a bit of wreck experience who appreciates atmosphere and history over tropical fish.
