Wreck of Mary And Francis - Northumberland & Northeast

There’s just something about a wreck that gives us a shiver, especially one with a story like the *Mary And Francis*. This isn't some pristine museum piece; it's a genuine historical wreck that feels lived in, or rather, died in. Dropping down onto her, you’ll find a stern section largely intact, listing to port, with big openings that practically invite exploration. We love pushing our heads through the bigger gaps, peering into the gloom, imagining the final moments. Our favourite part has to be the way the local life has completely taken over. Big schools of cod often hang around the deeper sections, curious and unafraid. Ling poke their heads out from inside the bigger plates, and we’ve even spotted some sizable edible crabs scuttling amongst the debris. It’s a dive that rewards slow, methodical exploration, rather than a quick swim-through. Keep an eye on your torch beam, the low visibility here often adds to the drama rather than detracting from it. It’s a proper UK wreck dive, gritty and atmospheric, best suited for those who appreciate history as much as marine life, and who don't mind a bit of a current.
