Wreck of Nuova Fortuna - Northumberland & Northeast

The *Nuova Fortuna* isn't your typical pretty Mediterranean wreck, and that's precisely why we love it. This isn't about vibrant corals and sun-drenched visibility. Here, you're diving into history, a tangible piece of Northumberland's maritime past, often shrouded in that moody, green light that's so characteristic of North Sea diving. Dropping down onto the *Nuova Fortuna*, the scale hits you. It’s a substantial wreck, broken but still offering plenty to explore. We’ve spent many dives navigating its holds, imagining the cargo, and finding the quiet corners where the crabs lurk. It’s a wreck that really changes with the light and the current; one day it's a shadowy maze, the next a clearer canvas for the resident cod and wrasse. They're surprisingly bold here, often darting out from rusted compartments to check you out. Our favourite is finding the conger eels, usually tucked away deep within the structure. You won't find neon nudibranchs, but the sheer number of anemones and dead man’s fingers clinging to the steel creates its own sort of beauty. It's a dive that rewards patience and a good torch, perfect for those who appreciate the atmospheric side of wreck diving over clear blue water.
