Wreck of Raker - Northumberland & Northeast

There’s a real charm to the wrecks off the Northeast coast, a certain atmospheric gloom we find quite captivating. The Raker is a prime example. We love how the hull plates, now draped in dead men’s fingers, break up the otherwise flat seabed. It’s not a huge wreck, but there are plenty of nooks and crannies to peer into, especially around the bow and stern sections. Dive here when the tide is slack, and the visibility can actually be pretty good for the UK, maybe 5-8 metres. We’ve found some decent sized cod lurking in the holds and often spot dogfish eggs tucked into the superstructure. It’s a dive that rewards slow exploration, letting your eyes adjust to the low light. This is for divers who appreciate history and the way the sea reclaims things, not those chasing flashy tropical colours. Expect an authentic slice of North Sea diving.
