Wreck of Severn - Northumberland & Northeast

There's something about a wreck in cooler water that just feels right, and the Severn delivers on that gritty, historical vibe we love. This isn't some tropical artificial reef; it’s a proper piece of maritime history, lying broken but still defiant on the seabed off Northumberland. We've always found the visibility here can be a bit of a lottery, but even on a murky day, the sheer scale of the old steam trawler emerges like a ghost. Diving the Severn means weaving through twisted metal, boilers, and plates, all heavily encrusted with anemones and hydroids. It’s a fantastic home for wolf fish, and we’ve seen some absolute monsters tucked into crevices – keep an eye on those nooks and crannies. Conger eels are also frequent residents, often peering out from larger openings with a wary eye. It's a site that rewards multiple visits, revealing new details and inhabitants with each dive, especially for those who enjoy the challenge of a true wreck exploration. Bring a good torch and be prepared for some ambient light diving; it adds to the atmosphere.
