Wreck of Thor - Northumberland & Northeast

Now this is a proper wreck dive, no tourist trap here. The Thor, a Norwegian steamer sunk during World War I, sits broken but defiant on the seabed off the Northumberland coast. We love the history you can feel down here; it’s not just a pile of metal, it’s a time capsule. Dropping down, the visibility often hovers in that classic North Sea green, but it just adds to the atmosphere. You’ll navigate through the broken hull, past twisted beams and plates, often finding huge sections collapsed in on themselves. Keep an eye out for conger eels peering from dark recesses – they’re practically residents. We’ve also seen some seriously chunky lobsters tucked into every crevice, plus schools of pollock swirling around the highest points of the wreck. It’s a dive for those who appreciate a bit of grit and history, where the cold water just sharpens the sense of adventure. Best tackled by experienced cold-water divers comfortable with overhead environments and variable conditions.
