Wreck of Unnamed Shipwreck - Canmore 101649 - Northumberland & Northeast

The “Unnamed Shipwreck” off Northumberland, known locally as Canmore 101649, is a bit of a mystery, and honestly, that’s part of its charm. We love a good puzzle, and this wreck delivers. It’s not one of those intact museum pieces; instead, you’ll find a scatter of ribs and plates, heavily encrusted and beautifully colonised. Our favourite part is navigating the twisted metal, feeling the pull of the current, and seeing how the North Sea has reclaimed it. Visibility here can be a real North Sea lottery, so pick your day carefully – calm conditions with a high tide are often best. You’ll spend your dive poking around hull sections that lie mostly flat, a haven for crabs scuttling between the gaps and the occasional inquisitive cod. Look out for nudibranchs, especially around the older, more stable growth. It’s a dive for those who enjoy the historical detective work, who don't mind a bit of a rumble in the water, and who appreciate the raw, wild beauty of a wreck slowly dissolving back into the seabed.
