Wreck of Vanderbyl - Northumberland & Northeast

The Vanderbyl is pure North Sea grit, a proper shipwreck dive. We love this one for its sheer scale and the way it’s settled on the seabed. Dropping down, you’ll start to pick out the huge iron plates and ribs, often silhouetted against the emerald light filtered through the water. It's an imposing sight, feeling more like an underwater factory than a ship in places. There's plenty to explore, from the massive boilers that stand proud to the sections of deck that have collapsed, creating swim-throughs where cod and pollock often lurk. Keep an eye out for the resident wolf fish, a chunky character that often peeks out from nooks and crannies. This dive suits experienced cold-water wreck enthusiasts who appreciate the history and the rugged beauty of a truly disintegrated vessel. Our favourite tip? Aim for a slack tide; the currents here can be a serious workout if you don't time it right.
