Wreck of Village Belle - Northumberland & Northeast

The Village Belle isn't one for fair-weather divers, but for those who brave the chill, she offers a proper North Sea adventure. We love her for the challenge and the raw history she represents. Dropping onto the wreck, you're immediately struck by the sheer scale of her collapsed hull, the steel plates draped like fabric over the seabed. It’s a proper rummage, this one, with lots of nooks and crannies to poke into. Our favourite spot is usually around the stern, where the structure is still quite defined, creating perfect hideaways for big lobsters and those surprisingly colourful jewel anemones that thrive in these northern waters. Visibility can be a real lottery here; sometimes it's a silty gloom, other times a surprisingly clear 10 metres, enough to appreciate the scale. We always suggest trying to time your dive for slack water, otherwise, the current can be a proper workout. While it’s not a vibrant coral garden, the life here is hardy and fascinating – nudibranchs inching across corroded metal, curious pollock darting through the skeletal remains, and always, always the chance of a grumpy wolf fish peering out from a dark recess. It’s a dive for those who appreciate history and the tough beauty of temperate wrecks, not for beginners expecting a gentle drift.
