Wreck of Zafiris - Northumberland & Northeast

Diving the Zafiris is a proper North Sea experience, one we always come back to. She’s not some sun-drenched Caribbean wreck; this is cold, often green water diving, and it’s brilliant because of it. What you’ll find is a well-broken but substantial wreck, sitting upright, with her bows pointing east. Her holds are generally open and explorable, often with an interesting collection of pottery shards scattered amongst the plates and mugs from her galley. We love the way the light filters through the kelp forest that has grown up around her shallower sections, especially on a day with decent visibility. Keep an eye out for the resident crabs and lobsters tucked into every nook and cranny; they’re huge here. We’d suggest diving her on a slack tide, if you can time it, to really explore the deeper sections where the structure is more intact. It’s a dive for those who appreciate history and the rugged beauty of a wreck reclaiming by the sea, rather than a parade of tropical fish.
