Emma Hood Swim Center - California

Okay, let’s be straight up: the Emma Hood Swim Center isn't what you're picturing when you think "California diving." Forget kelp forests and sea lions. This is a local public swimming pool. And yes, we've dove it. It's... unique. You're looking at a tiled bottom, lane lines, and the occasional lost swim cap. The visibility is usually excellent, thanks to the filtration system, which is a definite plus when you’re trying to spot a Plainfin Midshipman – if one ever found its way in here. We actually did see some Shiner Perch once, somehow. Our favourite part? The sheer absurdity of doing a full scuba setup to explore 12 feet of chlorinated water. It’s a fantastic spot for gear testing, maybe practicing buoyancy in a controlled environment, or just having a laugh with your dive buddies. Seriously, don't come here expecting a reef, or even a rock. You might, however, see a floating toy or two.
