Yukon Wreck - California

The Yukon Wreck, sunk off San Diego, is one of our favourite cold-water wreck dives. We love its sheer size, lying on its port side, an impressive 366 feet long. Dropping down, the first thing you notice is the structure itself, especially the massive propeller and rudder, often draped in giant sea anemones. Penetration is doable for trained wreck divers; the engine room and bridge offer some incredible swim-throughs, but always remember your training and stick to your limits. Look closely, and you’ll spot California sheephead nosing around the hull, often with señoritas darting in and out of the crevices. We’d suggest diving this one on a calm day, as surge can make the interior explorations a bit tricky. The bow section, in particular, has become a haven for small rockfish and occasionally, a grumpy cabezon. It’s a proper wreck dive, best for those comfortable with deeper profiles and a bit of current.
