Maui Pacific Divers - Hawaii
The team at Maui Pacific Divers are the kind of operation we love. Forget the cattle boats; these guys stick to six divers max, which means actual space on deck and proper attention underwater. It’s perfect for divers who want a more personal vibe, whether you’re knocking out a PADI Dive Boat specialisation or just keen to explore some of Maui’s quieter spots. We’d pick them when we’re looking for a relaxed, unhurried day on the water, away from the usual crowds. Their boat, the Mālie, is quick, getting you to sites like Molokini Crater before the masses arrive. We’ve seen reef sharks cruising through the calmer water inside the crater early in the morning, the light shafts cutting through the blue. They’re also great for exploring the less-frequented lava tubes and ledges along Maui’s south coast. Think green sea turtles chilling on the sand, or a shy octopus peeking out from a crevice, their eyes tracking you slowly. We’ve found their guides have a knack for spotting those smaller, camouflaged critters, too – a particular nudibranch or a frogfish swaying with the surge. Go with them if you appreciate a dive where you can actually hear your own regulator, not just the jostle of twenty other divers.
