Pacific Rim Divers Limited - Hawaii
The team at Pacific Rim Divers Limited are our pick for hitting the Kona coast. We love that they focus entirely on dive boat trips, running out of Honokohau Small Boat Harbor. It’s a no-frills, get-it-done operation perfect for divers who just want to get wet and see some fish, without any resort fluff. They’re PADI affiliated, but honestly, you're coming here for the diving, not the courses. Their 34-foot aluminum boat is solid and straightforward. We’ve had some cracking dives with them, especially early mornings when the light hits the lava tubes just right. Think schools of yellow tang so dense they make the water shimmer, and the occasional manta ray gliding by as you fin over the black rock. The visibility out there can be ridiculous, 30 meters plus on a good day, and the water is always a comfortable temperature, even in winter. We’d suggest chatting with them beforehand if you have a specific site in mind; they're usually good about trying to accommodate. It’s the kind of dive operation where you feel like you’re diving with experienced local friends, not just another commercial outfit.
