Marine Electric Wreck - North Carolina

The Marine Electric wreck, 20 miles off the coast, is one of North Carolina’s classic deep dives. We love it because it’s a big wreck, the bow and stern sections are largely intact, giving you something substantial to explore. Dropping down, you’ll usually feel a bit of current, but it’s often manageable as you descend onto the main deck at around 35 metres. Look for sand tiger sharks resting in the deeper holds, their toothy grins a bit unnerving but always a thrill. The ship broke in two during a storm in 1983, a tragedy that changed maritime safety regulations forever. Today, the split adds to its character, creating separate zones for exploration. We always find green moray eels tucked into crevices, and schools of amberjack often patrol the mast structures. Visibility can be a bit variable out here, but on a good day, the sheer scale of the wreck is impressive, a sombre reminder of the ocean's power. This site really suits experienced wreck divers comfortable with depth and potential currents, offering a glimpse into both maritime history and thriving artificial reef life.
