Veturia Wreck - North Carolina

The Veturia Wreck in North Carolina is one of those sites that just grabs you. We love how the strong currents have stripped back parts of the ship, leaving twisted metal and gaping holes that create perfect swim-throughs. As you descend, the sheer size of her begins to emerge from the Atlantic gloom, often with sand tiger sharks cruising overhead or lurking in the holds. It’s a proper expedition dive, best for those comfortable with deeper water and the unpredictable surges of the Outer Banks. Our favourite time to dive Veturia is late spring or early summer when the water starts to warm up, before the hurricane season properly kicks in. We’ve had some cracking visibility days then, making it easier to appreciate the resident goliath groupers and the dense schools of baitfish that swirl around the superstructure. Just remember, the currents can be fierce, so plan your entry and exit carefully and keep an eye on your dive guide; they know the eddies and protected spots like the back of their hand.
