Wreck of Bounty - North Carolina

Alright, let’s talk about the *Bounty*. Not the original, obviously, but the 1960 replica that sank off Hatteras during Hurricane Sandy. We love a wreck with a story, and this one’s got a good one, even if it’s a modern tragedy rather than an ancient one. What you get here is a proper wooden ship, a rarity amongst the steel hulks. Dropping down onto it, the sheer size hits you first. It’s broken, yes, but still incredibly evocative. We’re talking masts, rigging, and deck structures all twisted and draped with fishing nets. It’s dark down there, even on a sunny day, with that eerie green light filtering through. Our favourite part? Definitely exploring the stern section. You can imagine the crew quarters, even if they’re now home to huge schools of baitfish and the occasional curious sand tiger shark. Visibility can be a challenge, so pick your weather window. We'd suggest late summer or early autumn for the best chance at calmer seas and clearer water. It’s an intermediate dive, currents can be strong, but the reward of seeing such a unique wreck is well worth the effort.
