LAURA SECURITY - El Gouna

The Laura Security isn't your grand, sprawling wreck, but it holds a charm we really appreciate, especially for a shallower El Gouna dive. This old tanker, down since '85, broke up a bit on the reef and now lies in pieces at around 7 metres. It’s ideal for a long, relaxed exploration, perfect for photographers wanting to dial in their macro settings or newer divers getting comfortable around a historical site. We love how the wreck has completely melded with the reef. You'll swim through the skeletal remains of the hull, now draped in soft corals – the colours here are surprisingly vivid in the shallow light. Look closely into the nooks and crannies of the metal plates. We've often spotted scorpionfish camouflaged perfectly, and those ubiquitous Red Sea glassfish shimmer in dense clouds around the larger sections. Our favourite part is finding the swim-throughs formed by the broken sections; they're tight but manageable, giving you a real sense of being inside the wreck without any real penetration. Visibility here is usually fantastic, making it easy to just drift and absorb the details.
