TIMSUFON - El Gouna

Timsubon is one of those wrecks that really sticks with you after a dive. Lying deep at 32 meters, this old supply vessel, sunk way back in 1975, has had plenty of time to become a proper artificial reef. We love descending onto its deck, feeling that shift in temperature as you hit the thermocline, and watching the wreck slowly emerge from the blue. What makes Timsubon so good isn't just its history, though we enjoy thinking about its dramatic end – sinking while under tow after a serious leak. It's the way the Red Sea has totally reclaimed it. Nudibranchs crawl over the superstructure, often a brilliant splash of purple or orange against the encrusted metal. We’ve drifted along the deck, peeking into open doorways where glassfish shimmer like liquid silver, and always keeping an eye out for morays tucked into crevices. The wreck has a real sense of quiet dignity to it now, a calm contrast to the strong currents that sometimes sweep through here. If you’re a diver who appreciates how nature reclaims man-made objects, Timsubon is a genuinely rewarding experience. Just be mindful of your depth and bottom time; 32 meters can eat up your NDLs quickly.
