EASTERN MEDITERRANEAN - Eilat
Don't let the name fool you. The Eastern Mediterranean isn't a deep blue sea dive with ancient amphorae. We're talking about a Red Sea wreck, right off the Eilat shore, and it's something special if you know what to look for. This old steamship, sunk in just 3 meters, is a perfect spot for divers who want to spend some serious time exploring a piece of history without the pressure of depth. We love kicking around this wreck on a calm morning, the sun painting shifting patterns on the deck. The hull is still surprisingly intact, offering plenty of nooks and crannies to peer into. Look for the pipefish camouflaged against the rust, or the tiny blennies darting in and out of the portholes. It’s shallow enough that you can really take your time, tracing the ship’s outline, imagining its journey. Our favourite part? The way the light filters through the superstructure, highlighting the small shoals of juvenile fish that have made this their home. This site is brilliant for photographers, or anyone who enjoys a relaxed, detailed wreck dive.
