Pilar Buceo - Mar del Plata
Mar del Plata isn’t typically the first place divers think of when planning a trip to Argentina, but for those willing to venture south of Buenos Aires, Pilar Buceo offers a surprisingly rewarding experience. This isn't about tropical fish and neon corals. This is about real wreck diving, cold water, and a team who genuinely loves what they do. The team at Pilar Buceo are just fantastic – welcoming, professional, and they really know their local sites. They specialise in taking divers to the various shipwrecks scattered along the coast, a unique opportunity to explore history under the waves. We love their commitment to making cold water diving accessible. They run a tight ship, whether you’re doing your PADI Open Water or heading out for a technical dive. Our favourite trips are to the deeper wrecks, like the *Cristo Rey*, where you’ll find conger eels peering from portholes and the occasional king crab scuttling across the deck plates. Visibility can be a mixed bag, anywhere from a murky few metres after a storm to a crisp 15 metres on a good day, but the sheer size and history of these wrecks always make it worthwhile. We’d suggest going in late spring or early autumn for the best chance of settled weather and decent vis. Don't expect bathwater; this is drysuit or thick wetsuit territory, but the thrill of exploring these ghost ships is a unique reward.
