Veleiro Orca - Fernando de Noronha
The Veleiro Orca isn't your average Fernando de Noronha dive, and that's precisely why we love it. At 30 metres, it's a bit deeper than some of the other spots, giving it a real atmospheric feel. This isn't some pristine, intact vessel; the Orca went down in the 1990s, caught in a storm, and time has taken its toll. You'll find it well-broken up, with large hull sections scattered across the sandy bottom, creating nooks and crannies absolutely bursting with life. Swimming over the main sections, we often spot nurse sharks tucked away, sometimes a lazy green sea turtle grazing nearby. The metal itself is a canvas of soft corals and sponges, and the resident schools of snapper and grunt weave through the wreckage like liquid silver. It's an intermediate dive, requiring good buoyancy to navigate the scattered debris without stirring up the sand. Our tip? Go early in the morning. The light penetration at that depth is magical, really highlighting the texture of the encrusted metal and making the schooling fish truly glow. It’s a dive that rewards a slow pace, letting you absorb the history and the vibrant marine reclamation of this accidental reef.
