Canto del Mero - Santa Marta & Tayrona

If you’re diving Arraial do Cabo, we’d tell you to make a beeline for Fenda Jorge Grego. It’s got that dramatic flair we always look for. The boat drops you for a drift entry, and straight away you’re in the current, heading for this huge crack in the island wall. It's about four metres wide at the mouth, opening up like a giant's jaw, and you feel the water push you gently inside. We love the light play in here. Sunlight streams in from above, hitting the walls, creating these shifting patterns. It’s not a dark cave, more of a deep canyon, and the deeper you go, the more you see the resident nudibranchs dotting the rock faces – look for the vibrant reds and yellows. Keep an eye out for sleepy dusky cardinalfish tucked into crevices and the occasional planehead filefish blending in against the rock. This dive is definitely for those comfortable with a bit of current and a drift, but the maximum depth of 17 metres keeps it accessible. It’s a sensory experience, feeling the movement of the water, watching the light change, and knowing you’re inside something truly unique.
