Why dive here
With 118+ marine species recorded in the area - including manta rays, mobula rays (devil rays), orcas, sea turtles and sperm whales - Maratua Channel offers some of Derawan Islands's richest drift diving.
Maratua Channel is a drift dive, best suited for experienced divers comfortable with stronger currents. We’ve found the channel often delivers a good show of pelagic action, with grey reef sharks and schooling barracuda common. Keep an eye out for eagle rays gliding through too. It’s a site that rewards patience and a good safety sausage.
Safety Notes
Drift dive - carry a surface marker buoy (SMB) and stay with your group. Brief the current direction before entry.
