Sangalaki Diving: The Manta Ray Expressway - Derawan Islands

Sangalaki’s Manta Ray Expressway is exactly what it sounds like, a busy thoroughfare for these majestic filter feeders. We often found ourselves just drifting along, watching mantas cruise by, sometimes alone, sometimes in small groups. It’s a pretty straightforward drift dive, so it’s suitable for most divers looking to simply observe these big animals. Beyond the mantas, we’ve also seen a decent number of turtles here, and if you slow down and really look, there's some interesting macro life tucked into the reef too.
