KM. Canci Ladjoni - Komodo

KM. Canci Ladjoni isn't your postcard Komodo dive, and that’s precisely why we love it. This isn’t a coral garden. This is a journey back in time, submerged and slowly reclaimed. We find the whole experience wonderfully eerie, especially on a day with a bit of a current. The wreck itself, a large wooden fishing vessel that went down in 2003, sits upright at 27 metres. You’ll drop down into a blue that feels different from the usual reef dives here, a bit more subdued, until the dark silhouette of the wreck emerges. What strikes us first is the sheer scale. It’s a proper ship, not just a pile of debris, and you can spend a whole dive just tracing its outline, peering into the collapsed wheelhouse, or running a hand over the barnacle-encrusted hull. Schools of fusiliers often swirl above the deck, a silvery cloud against the deeper blue, while trevally and giant sweetlips patrol the open holds. Keep an eye out for scorpionfish, too, masters of camouflage, tucked into every crevice. We’d suggest focusing on the bow and stern for the best intact structures, but the midsection offers plenty of smaller nooks for macro life. Due to its "dangerous wreck" classification, this one is for experienced wreck divers comfortable with stronger currents and deeper depths.
