Pink Beach - Komodo
Pink Beach in Komodo is a site we keep coming back to, not for roaring currents or pelagic action, but for its quiet charm and sheer density of small, interesting things. It’s an easy, sheltered dive, perfect for photographers or anyone who just wants to slow down and really look. The name comes from the actual pink sand, tinted by microscopic red coral fragments, and that subtle colour palette extends underwater. Visibility here can vary, but even on an average day, the light plays beautifully through the water column, illuminating the surprisingly vibrant reef. We love hovering over the gentle slopes, spotting the Fringe-eye Flatheads perfectly camouflaged against the rubble, or watching for the clever Alligator Pipefish tucked among the coral branches. Look out for juvenile Black-saddled Leatherjackets, their patterns almost electric. We’ve had great luck finding Coral Catsharks here too, often resting under small ledges. If you’re lucky, you might even spot a Brownbanded Bamboo Shark, another shy resident. This isn’t a deep dive, making it ideal for longer bottom times. It’s a macro lover’s dream, a place to let your eyes adjust and pick out the intricate details. We’d suggest going in the morning before any day boats arrive from Labuan Bajo for the beach visit; it’s just more peaceful then. You’ll find Undulated Morays peering from crevices and flashes of Angelfish darting through the coral. Pink Beach offers a different kind of Komodo experience, a gentle exploration of the smaller wonders.
