RADEN SALEH - Komodo

Raden Saleh sits in the relatively sheltered waters of Loh Buaya, a welcome change from Komodo’s usual washing machine. This isn't a deep dive, barely hitting three metres, which makes it perfect for a long, slow exploration. You'll find a small motor vessel, a timber hull that’s mostly collapsed in on itself, but the ribs and keel are still clearly defined. It’s less about penetration here and more about the delicate ecosystem that’s sprung up around it. We love how the light plays on the shallows, illuminating every crack and crevice where juvenile reef fish dart. Look closely, and you'll spot tiny crabs scuttling over the decaying wood and nudibranchs grazing on the algae. This site is brilliant for macro photographers or anyone who just wants to soak in the atmosphere of a piece of history returning to nature. We often suggest it as a second or third dive, a relaxed way to wind down the day, especially if you've been battling currents elsewhere. The calm conditions mean visibility often stretches wide, giving you plenty of time to explore without feeling rushed.
