Sabayor Kecil - Komodo

Sabayor Kecil is an absolute standout in Komodo, one of our favourite easy dives when we need a break from the washing machine currents further south. It’s got a perfect gentle slope, dropping from maybe five metres down to a sandy bottom at 20. The real magic here is the light. On a sunny day, it feels like the whole reef is lit from within, especially the huge stands of staghorn coral. You’ll spend most of your dive just drifting along, watching blue-lined surgeonfish flitting through the coral branches, sometimes schools so dense they really do block out the sun for a second. We’ve found the best visibility here is usually late morning, after any overnight swell has settled. Look closely in the thalassia seagrass beds near the shallows; we've seen some cool little nudibranchs there, a nice change from the big pelagics. It’s a site that just feels good, a lovely, relaxing dive after a morning with a bit more punch.
