Why dive here
With 203+ marine species recorded in the area - including manta rays, mobula rays (devil rays), pygmy seahorses, sea turtles and sperm whales - Siaba Besar dive site offers some of Komodo's richest reef diving. Water ranges 28-30°C, warmest April, May, November.
Siaba Besar always brings a smile to our faces. We call it "Turtle Town" for good reason, though it’s far from a one-trick pony. Drop down onto the gentle slope, and you’re immediately enveloped by the sheer density of green sea turtles – they’re everywhere, munching on the seagrass, resting under coral bommies, or slowly cruising past, often oblivious to divers. The reef here, a mix of robust staghorn and brain corals, feels established, a comfortable home for countless reef fish. It’s an easy dive, perfect for photographers wanting to spend time with the turtles or for newer divers building confidence in Komodo’s generally more energetic waters. We love to just drift along, spotting the bright pink anemonefish darting amongst their host anemones, or a curious Marshall dottyback peeking out from a coral head. Look closely amongst the cauliflower corals and you might even spot a tiny crinoid clingfish. It’s the kind of site where you can slow down, really take things in, and just enjoy the calm hustle of the reef.
