Siaba Besar dive site - Komodo

Siaba Besar is one of those sites that just feels good. It’s a gentle introduction to Komodo’s magic, particularly if you’re still getting your bearings with the currents. We love starting here; it’s a drift that usually puts you right where you want to be. The reef slopes down, shallowing out into a huge, sandy turtle playground. You float along, and the sheer number of green turtles just hanging out, grazing, or sleeping is phenomenal. Seriously, we’ve counted upwards of twenty on a single dive, some so chilled they barely register you’re there. Beyond the turtles, the coral garden is surprisingly healthy given the mellow conditions. Big tables of Staghorn and Montipora coral stretch out, with flashes of electric blue from Boring Clams tucked in. Keep an eye out for the smaller stuff too; Seastar Shrimp are often hiding amongst the arms of their hosts. It’s not the roaring current, pelagic action of some Komodo sites, but it’s a beautiful, relaxing drift. Perfect for photographers, or anyone who just wants to soak in the serenity and get up close with some very relaxed reptiles.
